GUIDE DMS-C / CONFIGURATION CONTROL
Configuration control is the discipline that identifies what product definition applies, who may change it, where the change takes effect, and which records prove what was actually built.
Name the part, quantity, controlling material or process, and required date. Specification fit is reviewed before capacity or timing is stated.
CONFIGURATION ANSWER
It prevents a convenient file, substitution, bench fix, or informal instruction from creating an unapproved product variant.
AUTHORITY HIERARCHY
List every source that can influence the product: CAD, drawings, BOM, specification, software, work instruction, approved-source record, physical reference, and contractual acceptance language. Then define the authority hierarchy and conflict process.
Name the document, revision, date, owner, and effectivity.
Route conflicts to the role authorized to interpret or revise the definition.
Update affected work, material, inspection, test, and records before release.
